Specialist piano removers
Moving a piano is not something to be undertaken lightly… Upright pianos weigh in from a healthy 400 lbs (190 kg) and Baby Grands at around 600 lbs (285 kg). Larger grands can weigh up to 1200 lbs (530 kg). These loads, coupled with a fairly irregular shape, make moving pianos one of the most complicated items removers have to contend with. When one factors into the equation balance, inertia, and Health and Safety it becomes a daunting prospect. There are many professional furniture removers who will not even consider removing pianos, and often sub-contract specialists.
“Many thanks for the excellent service – I didn’t meet the guys myself but I gather from my mother and husband that they were brilliant and took great care with the piano as well as being extremely polite and professional. I appreciate too that they called me half an hour before both collection and delivery so I could make sure someone was in. The piano arrived in perfect condition and hardly even out of tune! Many thanks.”

Moving in excess of 2000 pianos each year ranging from small uprights to concert grands, and valued from £50 to £70,000, means we are well qualified to assess the health and safety aspects prior to effecting the removals, ensuring that the least strain is placed on the removers and the greatest care is taken with regard to your piano.
Our removal equipment is thoroughly inspected (usually on a daily basis) to ensure that it is sound and will protect your piano during its transportation. This applies to covers, shoes, straps, trolleys, and vehicles. Naturally we are fully insured with cover extending to liability in the home as well as during transit.
Our teams undergo rigorous training under the guidance of seasoned and experienced removers, with much of this being on-the-job learning.

“Following the removal on the 10th April, this is just a brief note Jennifer to thank you and your transport team for the highly efficient and swift service provided by Marksons in the matter of removal of our Bluthner baby grand from SW19 to Surrey. All went very well on the day, and throughout all our dealings we have been much impressed by the high quality customer care approach adopted. Although we don’t expect to need to move the Bluthner again for a long while – we can certainly recommend your company to others as and when a need arises. It would be nice if you could please convey my thanks to the removal team themselves. Many thanks again.”

What Our Transport Customers Say
Real reviews from real moves

Markson Pianos have always been the suppliers of pianos for my touring work and came up with a model which exactly suited our needs from the beginning. Once they even shipped a piano to Australia (at very short notice) when we got let down over there. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and professional.

The exceptional restoration of our Liberace grand piano by the Markson Pianos team has truly returned this iconic instrument to its rightful former glory, as the glistening focal point of our newly-refurbished Promenade and Artists' Bar.

My Mum bought me my very first upright piano from Markson Pianos, and many years later my beautiful grand piano was also bought from Marksons. Markson Pianos is truly a one-stop shop for anything and everything piano-related.

Thank you for the use of your beautiful Kawai piano. Piano-hunting as a recently graduated student isn't always easy, and so I am very grateful to Marksons Pianos for making the process simple. I was given helpful advice during my appointment, and gentle attention, to ensure I was able to find the right piano for me. I would definitely recommend this store to others in a similar situation.

Markson Pianos provide a consistently excellent service which always puts the needs of their customers front and centre. I have rented and then bought two pianos and booked many tunings and I'm always impressed the care and professionalism of the whole Markson team.

Absolutely love using Markson Pianos. I found my John Brinsmead there that I use and record with it every day at home. I've used it for recording on many albums including Sam Smith records as well as the entire Ted Lasso soundtrack.

I just wanted to write to you and say how very impressed I've been with the service that I have received from you all. I have spent a lot of time calling up different companies regarding ordering a piano. Markson Pianos went all out to assist me and to answer all my questions. I'm so very grateful for that service and will recommend you to anyone I know who is looking to buy a piano. Thanks so much!

The Piano company of first choice, always friendly, reliable and adaptable to the requirements of the venue. We just wanted to let you know the exciting news that Union Chapel has topped the Time Out London readers' poll for the Best Live Music Venue in London this year. Thank you for your support and work at Union Chapel, we really appreciate everyone's efforts which make for such a special place. Long may it continue!

Thanks to Markson Pianos for their excellent refurbishment work on our grand pianos, and the very impressive as-new rebuild of the Bechstein grand which has been such an asset in our chapel this year.

We bought a fleet of pianos from Markson Pianos to upgrade several of the university stock. This included two grands and several uprights. The service we received from Markson Pianos was exceptional, both in selecting the pianos and also the installation and aftercare. We found Markson Pianos to be very helpful and prompt in responding to enquiries. The pianos themselves were of a very high standard and our staff and students are very happy with the new purchases.

I was very happy with the excellent service from Markson Pianos. The Yamaha piano was beautiful and I arrived at the recording session with it perfectly tuned and maintained throughout the day.

London Transport Museum is delighted to have the support of Markson Pianos Ltd on our recently launched ‘Transported by Culture: Music’ programme, through the long-term loan of a stunning Baby Grand piano. Visitors to London Transport Museum will be able to enjoy live performances from some of London’s most talented young classical and jazz musicians, including pianist Vusala Babayeva – set against the unique backdrop of our iconic collection. Part of the Museum’s work as an education and heritage charity, the programme has been developed to equip young classical and jazz musicians at the start of their careers with real-world performance experience.

Thirty three years ago, when our daughter first started piano lessons, we hired a piano from Marksons, on the recommendation of a musical friend. It was a beautiful light oak Hellas piano, golden in looks and in tone. Over the years it has encouraged a passion for music in all the members of our household and played its part at weddings,, christenings and every family Christmas. From the beginning, Marksons have treated us with consideration and courtesy. So much so that when we sadly decided it was time to return it to store, they offered to sell it to us at a very fair price. So we could keep our old friend forever. Naturally, I cannot recommend them highly enough. If you’re considering hiring or buying a piano, you can do no better than Marksons.

Yes. Stairs, tight corners, basements and raised ground floors are all part of a normal week for our team. Let us know the access details when you request a quote so we can send the right crew and equipment.
Moving a piano does not usually knock it out of tune, but a change of room or building means a change in temperature and humidity, which can affect the pitch. We recommend letting the piano settle for two to three weeks in its new position and then having it tuned - we can arrange this for you.
